The autumn will mark the beginning of construction of the House of Letters of the Academic Centre of the University of Latvia

The Riga City Construction Board has issued a building permit for the construction of the House of Letters of the Academic Center of the University of Latvia (UoL).

Construction works in the territory of the UoL Academic Center in Torņakalns, Jelgavas Street are planned to start in autumn, while the opening of the new building is planned for 2023.

After the opening of the House of Letters, six faculties of humanities and social sciences will move to this new UoL building: Faculty of History and Philosophy, Faculty of Pedagogy, Psychology and Art, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Business, Management and Economics, and Faculty of Theology.

It is planned that the new building will also house three institutes: the Latvian Institute of History, the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, and the Institute of Latvian Language. The UoL Student Business Incubator, UoL Interdisciplinary Education Innovation Center, UoL Library, Student Self-Government and Radio Naba Studio will also move to the building.

Taking into account that the occupancy of the House of Letters and the number of people will be higher than in the existing buildings of Nature and Science, the House of Letters will also be more spacious than the previous two buildings - the building will have eight above-ground floors and a basement. The House of Letters will have a 500-seat auditorium, a meditation room, an exhibition hall, as well as two atriums.
