Restoration Expert of RERE GRUPA Shares Experience on the Significance of Restoration in Latvia

On 12 May, the conference “Iegūtā izglītība nākotnei” (“Acquired Education for Future”) took place, where industry experts, entrepreneurs, representatives of the field of education and students of Zaļenieki Commercial and Crafts Secondary School had a discussion on acquisition of construction and restoration skills in Latvia and Germany. Within the framework of panel discussion of the conference also the restoration expert of RERE GRUPA Roberts Vecums-Veco participated in the discussion on the significance of restoration in Latvia as one of the experts.
 

Lelde Šantare, the Project Manager of the Development Division of Jelgava Regional Council, presented in the conference the results of Erasmus+ project “Improvement of Practical Knowledge of Students and Teachers of Zaļenieki Commercial and Crafts Secondary School”, their benefits and sustainability in terms of development and improvements of study programmes, acquisition of new skills and understanding of values of the European Union.

Whereas Juris Zviedrāns, the construction archeologist and the Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Association of Latvian Castles, Palaces and Manors, acquainted the conference participants with the existing situation in the restoration sector in Latvia. Own experience in acquiring construction and restoration skills in Germany, training of restoration specialists and operation of the Education Development Centre was shared by Achim Fiebig, the restoration specialist of the Vocational Education Development Centre of the Construction Association of Germany.

The second part of the conference consisted of a panel discussion, which was led by the journalist and producer Aiga Dzendoleto, and which was participated by the Deputy Principal of Zaļenieki Commercial and Crafts Secondary School Vallija Barkovska, the Head of the Education Board of Jelgava region Ginta Avotiņa, the representative of the Ministry of Education and Science Inta Šusta, the restoration expert of RERE GRUPA and the craftsman-expert of the Latvian Chamber of Crafts Roberts Vecums-Veco, and the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Association of Latvian Castles, Palaces and Manors Juris Zviedrāns.

During the discussion, the experts addressed the issues of quality criteria, improvement and monitoring of vocational internship, as well as the necessity of closer cooperation and more open dialogue among employers and representatives of the education sector, emphasizing the way of solving vocational education orientation on the national level and occupational succession.

“How to recognize a good restorer? It is the restorer’s soul – skilful attitude towards the work performed, without thinking about own prosperity”, with these words Roberts Vecums-Veco started the panel discussion, and also touched the issues of restorers’ future, raising of education quality, the opportunities to acquire the restorer’s profession in practice. Restoration experts of RERE GRUPA, taking care of occupational succession, education and professional growth of the new generation, have always supported young people, sharing their theoretical and practical knowledge.

Within the framework of Erasmus+ project “Improvement of Practical Knowledge of Students and Teachers of Zaļenieki Commercial and Crafts Secondary School” 16 future restoration assistants had one-month traineeship at the Vocational Education Development Centre of the Construction Association of Germany, whereas 10 future motor engineers had two-month internship at car services in Portugal. During the project, 10 teachers had an opportunity for professional development in education institutions and companies in Germany and Portugal in order to improve vocational education programmes.

Within the framework of the project, learning the experience of other countries in implementing vocational education and attending various vocational education institutions, Zaļenieki Commercial and Crafts Secondary School wants to expand its offer, developing acquisition of masonry restoration for a wider audience and creating the Restorers’ Training Workshop.
