Opening of the reconstructed stage of the transit route of A3 road took place in Valka

On 31 October, the reconstructed stage of the transit route of A3 road was officially opened in Valka city, Rīgas Street, from the city border to Zemgales Street.

The reconstruction of this stage was long awaited and rather necessary - mainly for traffic safety. However, an equally important aspect is that when currently entering Valka city, where Latvia starts, it has become completely different because a visually attractive surrounding environment has been created. This stage of the street is also a stage of the European significance transport corridor A3 Riga-Tartu-St Petersburg.

The attendants of the opening ceremony were addressed by the Chairman of Valka Regional Council Vents Armands Krauklis, the Chairman of the Board of SJSC “Latvijas Valsts ceļi” Jānis Lange and the Chairman of the Board of JSC “RERE Grupa” Guntis Āboltiņš-Āboliņš.

“I wish to express my gratitude to all the residents of Valka city for their patience and understanding because lengthy construction works are never pleasant. A huge thanks to everyone who was involved in the implementation of this project - the Ministry of Transport, the Chairman of the Board of “Latvijas Valsts ceļi” Jānis Lange, the Chairman of the Board of JSC “RERE Grupa” Guntis Āboltiņš-Āboliņš, the construction supervisor Jānis Reiniks of LLC “Jurēvičs un partneri”, the author's supervisor Aigars Leitis of LLC “Ceļu komforts”, and performers of the works – the Chairman of the Board of LLC “Valkas meliorācija” Jānis Biezais”, declared in his speech the Chairman of Valka Regional Council Vents Armands Krauklis.

The Chairman of the Board of JSC “RERE Grupa” Guntis Āboltiņš-Āboliņš holds the view that this is a historically significant road: “Today, we celebrate not only a historical moment, but we have also gathered at a historical stage of the route, which was marked as a significant direction already in the routes of the Livonian period, connecting Europe and the former Dorpat. Traveller notes about this part of Livonia show that the roads were impassable and in an awful condition. Today, we are witnessing another historical moment because this transit road has never seen such quality. I am very proud that we have proved what we can do, we have learned something new and we don't have to be ashamed of what we have done. I wish to express great appreciation to my team, which completed this work in an excellent manner, and thanks to all the involved persons.”

The Chairman of the Board of JSC “Latvijas Valsts ceļi” Jānis Lange is very pleased with the achieved result: “Currently, all the main roads of Latvia near the border are in order, whereas in the neighbouring countries there are separate stages, which are in a slightly worse condition on the other side of the border than on our side.
Thanks to Valka local government for the constructive cooperation, contribution on their part, strength and courage, which allowed us to achieve this excellent result.”

During the works, a stage of Rīgas Street from the roundabout to the city border was completely reconstructed (reconstruction of the road cover was performed, a lit pedestrian walkway and bicycle path were constructed and bus stops and LED lighting were installed).
