A unique exhibition on narrow-track railway Gulbene-Alūksne is opened in the renovated baggage shed of Alūksne station

On Friday, 31 August, attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Transport, the National Cultural Heritage Administration, the Central Finance and Contracting Agency, and municipalities of Gulbene, Cesvaine and Smiltene regions, construction designers, the constructor RERE Meistari, designers and other cooperation partners, a new, multimedia exhibition “Alūksnes Bānīša stacija” (“Alūksne Bānītis Station”) was opened, which is set up in the recently reconstructed historical baggage shed of Alūksne station and will tell about the railway history, scenes of various periods of history and Bānītis as an assistant, workplace and source of inspiration.

The new exhibition will be opened for visitors starting from 1 September, when the 115th anniversary of Bānītis will be celebrated along the entire railway line. This exhibition is dedicated to the only narrow-track railway track in the Baltic states, which is used for regular transportation of passengers and currently connects two cities in Vidzeme - Alūksne and Gulbene - wherein the route comprises 33 km. In the past, this was a part of the 210 km long narrow-track railway line Pļaviņas-Valka, the construction of which was started in 1898 and it was put into operation in 1903.
