Jelgava State Gymnasium put into operation

The reconstruction of the Jelgava State Gymnasium is completed and today the Commission of the Construction State Control Office put the building into operation.

The construction works at the site took two-and-a-half years while the school underwent a full makeover: the building now has a new roof and windows, the façade is restored and painted in grey colours characteristic of the functional architecture back in 1930s; the surrounding territory is now arranged with a reconstructed stadium. It is important that the school now has new engineering communications: heating system, sewerage, water pipeline, electricity as these were not replaced since the building was restored after the World War II. The drainage system is now fully functional and other steps are taken to make sure that the high groundwater level does not cause flooding threatening damages to the school’s foundations.

The overall expenses for project ‘Improvements of Learning Environment in the Jelgava State Gymnasium and the Jelgava Secondary School of Technologies’ were 13,628,570.25 euros. The applicable expenses were 9,432,598.08 euros – 6,315,161 euros (66.95 per cent) funded by the ERDF, 3,117,437.08 (33.05 per cent) funded by the Jelgava local government and State budget subsidy to municipalities. The inapplicable expenses were 4,195,972.17 euros funded by the Jelgava local government. The construction expenses of the Jelgava State Gymnasium (development of construction design, author’s supervision, construction supervision and construction works) were 12,309,592.19 euros.
