A capsule with messages to the future generations was embedded into the foundations of the future Mežaparks Open-air Stage

Today, on 16 January, a capsule with messages to future generations was embedded into the foundations of the currently constructed Mežaparks Open-air Stage.

Valdis Koks, the Project Director of the general partnership “LNK RERE”, emphasised during this solemn event that “Today, we embedded in the foundations of the future open-air stage memorabilia which are symbolic and significant for each of us and which characterise what we are like right now, at the moment of construction of the stage, which will serve Latvians as a symbol of unity and collectiveness. We, constructors, will put two things in the capsule – a level gauge and a sand clock. These objects symbolise that equally significant aspects for us in this project are time in order to complete the significant works within the planned deadlines and, even more importantly, ensuring the high quality of implemented works. I wish that all these memorabilia and wishes strengthen the common values of our nation and remain in memory with great events!”

The construction of the new Mežaparks Open-air Stage and further reconstruction will be implemented in two parts - until 18 June 2020, before Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival; and will continue after the Festival until 2023, when the Song and Dance Festival will celebrate its 150th anniversary.

Currently, the construction of reinforced concrete piles is completely finished at the place of the future Mežaparks Open-air Stage, in total more than 1,100 piles. Currently, the construction of grillage and foundations as well as the moulding layer has commenced under the planned new stage building. Moreover, active waterproofing laying works, installation of sheet piles and excavation of foundation pit are being implemented. The scanning of the historic song festival stage and adjacent territory has also been completed. The obtained materials are transferred for storage to the National Library of Latvia and the National Archives of Latvia.
